It’s Only a Movie… Sleepaway Camp at Midnight Mass with Peaches Christ
Jun 13th
Having arrived a bit tipsy from a brief evening out with friends, I quickly got my ticket from the box office, said hello to familiar faces, and situated my happy self near the front of the theater for the pre-show. Peaches Christ has had Sleepaway Camp on her wish list of dream horror cult classics since Midnight Mass’s inception in 1998. The trouble was obtaining a print of the film which she found in the hands of Zach Jackson via the internets. Zach, coming all the way from Phoenix, made an appearance on stage, and much to his chagrin Peaches gave him a warm and humiliating Midnight Mass welcome.
I was a Sleepaway Camp virgin. I really had no idea what the movie was about at all. As a kid growing up in the 80′s I knew of the film. I had seen the poster on the cover of the VHS at my local video store that I frequented weekly. I think as a kid, who went to summer camp every year, I unknowingly avoided seeing it, thinking that it would totally freak me out… well it did. And in a very good way. This movie was ridiculous: boys in short shorts, horrendous acting, amazing deaths, and a finale that defies anything that I thought could have been possible to show in a theater in 1983. I loved it, and I think you will too.
SF Underground Film Festival with Peaches Christ and Sam Sharkey
Apr 20th
After running into The Victoria Theater with a stashed bag of Burger King 20-piece nuggets and grabbing a seat up in the balcony I realized that I hadn’t been to an underground film show in a long time (Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted Fest a few years back), and I was pleased to have this one open with Peaches Christ and Sam Sharkey rocking it out on stage together. Peaches was sporting a new Bea Dazzler original that was an homage to KISS, and Sam looked as sexy as he always does, albiet freshly shaven, sans stache which was explained after a viewing of a brief documentary he made shaving it off. The short film fest was followed by more outrageous performances and the world premiere of Devious, Inc. Check out the video below to see Peaches’ and Sam’s performance and highlights of the night courtesy of Mr. Wa.
Here’s a link to the event details if you wanna check out some info on the films presented. I’ve made a list below of my favorites.
Enrique Wrecks the World – Below is a short clip which does not do the carnage of the complete film justice. Let’s just say it’s not for overly-sensitive animal-lovers. I couldn’t stop laughing as the film progressed. This was a great way to open the film fest!
Tales of Mere Existence – Lev Yilmaz presented several of his shorts which feature him filming the actual drawing of his cartoons with his hilarious and insightful musing playing over the audio. Please visit his site and youtube to see his work. You WILL love it.
Sinking State - Beth Lisick & Frazer Bradshaw’s film is a tale of the aftermath of California’s sinking into the ocean with the most bizarre results. There are some great lines in this that you may find worth repeating with friends as an inside joke. Very funny.
Something Special – Brian Benson’s insane story of a shy and hideous, but sweet girl (Cousin Wonderlette) who finds true love amidst her nightmare of a life. I’m pretty sure almost everyone in this is a drag queen. It’s amazing and revolting. I totally loved it, but I’m also in it so I’m a bit biased ;] Below is a pic of Cousin Wonderlette getting a Christmas present a little early from her abusive mama.

Trannyshack Halloween 2010
Nov 20th
Heklina and Peaches Christ played hostesses to a fantastic Trannyshack Halloween Party at the DNA Lounge. Peaches dressed like Chuckie from Child’s Play, and Heklina as Regan MacNeil from the Exorcist. They were joined by Exhibit Q, Kim Burly, Coco Canal & Hugz Bunny, Sandra O. Noshi-Din’t, Cockatelia, Syphilis Diller, Elijah Minelli, Raya Light, Cousin Wonderlette, and special guest Julie Brown! Now that’s scary!
My buddy Ben Wa has edited a wonderful video of highlights from the show.
SOME THING EVIL!
May 25th
So Joshua Grannell (aka Peaches Christ) made this movie called All About Evil, and the night before the world premier at the Castro Theater she teamed up with my drag sister Vivvy Anne Forevermore and my drag granny, Glamamore to help celebrate this instant cult classic horror film with a wonderful drag show at SOME THING at the Stud. The film is fucking great. I may be biased (I’m an extra seated next to Heklina during the grande finale), but I’m also a very skeptical and cruelly judgmental movie-goer, and I have to tell you that being on the set, getting to know everyone involved from actors to extras from crew to producers, I could, with confidence, say that this movie was going to be gaymazing! And it is.

Peaches Christ gives good grindhouse with evil twins Jade and Nikita Ramsay
I got a first look at it when Joshua screened a cast and crew show late last year at the Victoria Theater. It was great to see all the folks from the set back in the theater where we filmed. And All About Evil was awesome! Experiencing the movie again this month at The Castro with so many fresh eyes watching it for the first time was a raging hoot! We all laughed so hard, people heckled, I even discovered new things to laugh at this time around. That is a great sign. Any good cult movie gets funnier the more times you see it because you recognize more things and find different levels of humor in some things than you did before. Plus the shared experience cannot be beat. You have to experience this at the cinema. And Peaches Christ is taking this movie on tour all over the US complete with a pre-show dragstravaganza that is sure to give you more bang for your movie buck. Check out this link to see if it’s going to come to your hometown. Not coming to a theater near you? Then I would suggest starting a Facebook page to demand it come. Many cities like my hometown of Detroit did just that. We gotta show booked within days!
The SOME THING EVIL show was a riot. Lots of fake blood, horror movie references, torture and laughs. Here’s some pics:
